Habitat: On decayed wood, typically Fagus or Fraxinus in mixed deciduous woodland. Rarely reported on conifers and on dead stems of Pteridium or Fallopia japonica.
Notes: Common in England, especially in southern counties. Occasional elsewhere but apparently widespread. Records from grassland are dubious and probably represent M. flavescens.
