Habitat: On acidic soil and needle litter in conifer woodland or plantations, usually with Pinus spp., but also known with Picea spp. and Tsuga heterophylla. Very rarely reported in leaf litter of deciduous trees such as Fagus and Betula spp., and also noted with Sphagnum spp. in boggy woodland.

Notes: Occasional but widespread and often locally abundant.
