Habitat: On soil and leaf litter in woodland, usually associated with Fagus in beechwoods on calcareous soil, rarely with other trees such as Betula spp. Very rarely on needle litter of conifers such as Picea spp. in plantations.

Notes: Common in southern and south-eastern England. Occasional elsewhere but apparently widespread.
