Habitat: Virulently parasitic, then saprotrophic. Growing on many species of deciduous trees and shrubs, less frequently on conifers.

Notes: Common and widespread, but only occasional in Scotland fide R. Watling (pers. comm.). Older records should be viewed with caution, as they may represent other species not previously distinguished. English name = 'Honey Fungus'.
