Habitat: Virulently parasitic, then saprotrophic. Growing on many species of deciduous trees and shrubs, less frequently on conifers.
Notes: Common and widespread, but only occasional in Scotland fide R. Watling (pers. comm.). Older records should be viewed with caution, as they may represent other species not previously distinguished.
