Habitat: On debris (needle litter, brash and small twigs) of conifers such as Chamaecyparis, Cupressus, Picea, Pinus, Pseudotsuga, Sequoia and Thuja spp., and rarely on litter of deciduous trees such as Fagus.

Notes: Common and widespread, and may be abundant where it occurs. The illustration of this species in B&K3: 194 pl. 217 is more likely to be Hemimycena cucullata.
