Russula foetens Pers., Observ. mycol. (Copenhagen) 1: 102 (1796) Habitat: On soil in old deciduous woodland, usually associated with Fagus or Quercus spp. Occasionally reported with Betula spp., and rarely (and dubiously) Pinus sylvestris.
Notes: Occasional to rather rare, but widespread and may be locally abundant.
