Habitat: On fallen, decayed wood of conifers such as Abies, Larix, Picea and Pinus spp. Rarely reported on deciduous hosts such as Betula, Fagus, Salix spp. and Sambucus nigra but these are all unsubstantiated with voucher material and the hosts unverified.
Notes: Common and widespread. Records on deciduous hosts are probably misidentified S. rugosum.
