Habitat: A wound parasite, also on dead, dying or decayed wood, usually of deciduous trees. Most common on Acer pseudoplatanus, Fagus, Fraxinus and Ulmus spp. Also known on wide range of other hosts, and very rarely on conifers including Juniperus and Pinus spp.

Notes: Common (perhaps slightly less so in northern areas) and widespread. Boletus rangiferinus was applied to abnormal ‘stagshorn’ forms found in mines and cellars.
