Daedalea quercina (L.) Pers., Syn. meth. fung. (Göttingen) 2: 500 (1801)

Agaricus quercinus L., Sp. pl. 2: 1176 (1753)

Habitat: Usually on Quercus spp. and rarely Castanea. Reported on Acer campestre, Aesculus, Betula, Fagus, Fraxinus, Populus and Ulmus spp., but these hosts are unverified. Usually on hard, barely decayed wood.

Notes: Occasional but widespread, and may be locally common in old woodland. Causes a progressive brown rot in heartwood, fruiting after the host dies.
