Habitat: Parasitic then saprotrophic on dead or dying deciduous trees. Rarely reported on conifers such as Pinus spp.
Notes: Very common and widespread. Of commercial importance as the cause of 'silver leaf' disease of fruit trees. Also used in recent times as a biocontrol agent to remove susceptible thicket-forming shrubs.
