Habitat: On dead wood of deciduous trees, usually large, hard, decorticated stumps and logs of Quercus spp., and less frequently Castanea. Reported rarely on other hosts such as Carpinus, Corylus, Crataegus, Fagus, Salix, Sambucus and Ulmus spp., but these hosts are not verified.

Notes: Very common and widespread.
