Lactarius serifluus (DC.) Fr., Epicr. syst. mycol. (Uppsala): 345 (1838) [1836-1838]

Agaricus serifluus DC., Fl. franç. Edn 3 (Paris) 5/6: 45 (1815)

Habitat: On soil (often clay) in woodland, usually associated with Quercus spp. Also known from fen-carr habitat, with Alnus and Fraxinus.

Notes: Widely reported but poorly understood in Britain. Frequently confused with Lactarius subumbonatus.
