Habitat: On dead wood of deciduous trees in woodland and on heathland. Most frequently reported on dead stumps of Betula spp., and occasionally on fallen trunks of Fagus. Also known on Alnus, Corylus, Crataegus, Populus tremula, Quercus and Ulmus spp.
Notes: Generally common and widespread, but occasional to rather rare in Scotland fide R. Watling (pers. comm.).
