Habitat: On wood (fallen twigs, sticks, woodchips etc.) in deciduous woodland, parks, and gardens.

Notes: Very common and widespread. T. hiemalis is sometimes considered a separate species, characterised by fruiting during the winter and by the more broadly capitate cheilocystidia and has been widely reported from Yorkshire southwards.
