Habitat: On mineral or sandy soil, most often with Betula spp., in mixed deciduous woodland. Also reported with Acer pseudoplatanus, Castanea, Fagus and Quercus spp.

Notes: Rarely reported. Collections from England (Berkshire, Cumberland, Dorset, East Kent, North Lincolnshire, Shropshire, South Devon, South Hampshire, Surrey, Westmorland, West Gloucestershire, and West Suffolk), Scotland (Angus, Easterness, East Sutherland, East and Mid-Perthshire, and Isle of Mull) and Northern Ireland (Down). Last reported from Wales in 1924.
