Habitat: On dead or decayed wood of conifers, usually large fallen trunks, logs or branches in woodland or on heathland. Known on Larix, Picea and Pinus spp., and especially frequent on Pinus sylvestris. A single record on Fagus but unsubstantiated with voucher material.

Notes: Common and widespread. Easily recognised especially if the pore surface has developed the distinctive apricot-orange colouration.
