Habitat: On soil, associated with Fagus on calcareous loam soils and with Quercus spp. in similar habitat.
Notes: Occasional in England, especially frequent in southern counties. Less frequently reported elsewhere but apparently widespread. Sensu Cooke 2 (2) Vol. 1 (1881) is Amanita citrina.
