Habitat: On soil in woodland, under deciduous trees. Often reported with Betula spp. but also known with Fagus and Quercus spp.

Notes: Occasional but widespread and may be locally common. Some of the records with Betula spp. may be misdetermined Tricholoma stiparophyllum.
