Habitat: On soil in deciduous woodland, along woodland edges, also in dunes, in parks and gardens and on wasteground.

Notes: Here taken sensu K&R & FAN4: (lacking cystidia). Often recorded but poorly known in Britain and no voucher collections exist. Most material in herbaria is Melanoleuca polioleuca.
