Habitat: On decayed wood of deciduous trees in old woodland. Usually on large decayed logs, fallen trunks or stumps of Fagus.
Notes: Apparently a rare species in the British Isles, although often reported and supposedly widespread. Many of the collections in herbaria are misidentified P. aurivella or P. jahnii.
