Habitat: Saprotrophic. On wood in buildings and able to spread through brickwork, concrete etc by producing water metabolically from the basidiomes, allowing hyphae to proceed across adversly dry substrates.

Notes: Occasional and widespread on structural timber, but much less common than formerly. Basidiomes can develop on any solid surface including glass and metallic objects, and the hyphae frequently fill hollow areas (wall spaces etc.) once the infection has tak.

Distribution: E: o, S: o, W: o, NI: o, ROI: o, Other: Channel Islands: !

Vouchers: England: K(M) 81228; Scotland: K(M) 81230; Wales: K(M) 81229; ROI: K(M) 81231
