Habitat: On acidic soil with conifers such as Abies, Picea and Pinus spp., or mixtures of conifers and Betula spp., in native woodland, plantations or on heathland. Very rarely reported with Fagus.

Notes: Common and widespread. L. mollis is maintained as distinct by some authorities.
