Habitat: On buried and partially decayed cones of Picea spp. and rarely on cones of Pseudotsuga menziesii in woodland and plantations. Fruiting in spring.

Notes: Occasional but widespread. Virtually restricted to Picea spp. Records on Pinus spp. are erroneous.
