Habitat: On acidic soil in mixed deciduous woodland, usually associated with Fagus and less often Quercus or Salix spp. Rarely reported with conifers such as Picea abies.
Notes: Occasional but widespread. The illustration in B&K3 may not show Boletus calopus and is possibly a form of B. speciosus fide G. Kibby (pers. comm.).
