Agaricus acerbus Bull., Herb. Fr. (Paris) 12: tab. 571 (1792)

Habitat: On soil, usually associated with Quercus spp. in old deciduous woodland. Also known with Fagus or Castanea.

Notes: Occasional in England. Rarely reported elsewhere but apparently widespread. Most records are from the south and west.
