Habitat: On acidic or sandy soil in deciduous woodland, usually associated with Castanea, Fagus and Quercus spp. Less often with conifers such as Pinus sylvestris in mixed woodland. Occasionally on decayed large stumps.
Notes: Occasional but widespread and may be locally frequent.
