Auriscalpium vulgare Gray, Nat. Arr. Brit. Pl. (London) 1: 650 (1821)

Hydnum auriscalpium L., Sp. pl. 2: 1178 (1753)

Habitat: Only on decayed cones of Pinus spp. (most often P. sylvestris) buried or partially buried in soil and needle litter. Reported on both Abies and Larix spp., but these hosts are unverified.

Notes: Occasional but widespread and may be locally abundant.
