Habitat: On acidic soil, in mixed deciduous and coniferous woodland, usually with Castanea, Fagus or Quercus spp., intermixed with Pinus sylvestris.

Notes: Occasional but widespread and generally uncommon but may be locally abundant in old woodland. Most frequently reported from southern England and Scotland.
