Habitat: On decayed wood of deciduous trees. Very common following Dutch elm disease on large fallen trunks of Ulmus spp., but now declining on that substratum. Occasional on Fagus and rarely on Fraxinus, Quercus and Sorbus aucuparia.
Notes: Occasional but widespread. Old Pleurotus ostreatus basidiomes are often misidentified as this species.
