Habitat: On decayed wood of deciduous trees. Most frequently on large, fallen trunks, logs or old stumps of Fagus.
Notes: Common and widespread. Closely related to B. conspersum and difficult to distinguish if the characteristic golden-yellow conidial stage is not present.
