Habitat: On soil or humus and amongst leaf litter, usually in deciduous woodland and reported with numerous trees and shrubs. Also known from dunes, gardens and roadside verges. Occasionally under conifers such as Pinus nigra and also on heathland in debris of Pteridium.

Notes: Common and widespread especially in southern and eastern England, slightly less frequent northwards.
