Habitat: On dead or decayed wood of deciduous trees, usually large logs or fallen trunks of Fagus. Also known on planted Acer rubra and on native Alnus, Betula, Corylus, Fraxinus, Populus, Quercus and Ulmus spp. Reported on Sambucus nigra but the host unverified.

Notes: Occasional but widespread and rather frequent in southern England.
