Habitat: On decayed stumps or fallen trunks of deciduous trees. Most often collected on Ulmus spp., more rarely on Fagus, Fraxinus and Populus spp.
Notes: Known from Warwickshire southwards. An unmistakable species, genuinely rare, which became locally common during the epidemic of Dutch elm disease.
