Habitat: On living or dead wood, often in wet locations such as woodland or trees at the edges of ponds, lakes, rivers etc., and may occur on logs floating or partially submerged in water. Usually on Salix spp. (especially S. fragilis), less frequently Alnus and rarely Fagus.

Notes: Generally rather rare, but apparently widespread in England, most frequent in southern counties but reported as far north as Yorkshire. A single old record from Northern Ireland, unsubstantiated with voucher material.
