Habitat: On loam or clay soil in deciduous woodland, usually associated with Quercus spp., less frequently with Fagus or Corylus.
Notes: Generally rather uncommon and often confused with L. fuliginosus. Mainly reported from southern England, but known as far north as Northumberland. Rarely reported from Scotland and Wales.
