Habitat: On soil in open deciduous woodland or scrub. Also reported from grazed pasture.

Notes: Rarely reported. First reported from Norfolk (Wymondham) in 1847, with a fine illustration by Hussey (1847: pl. 85) ‘such that its authenticity is beyond doubt’ (Reid7). Collections in herb. K from Huntingdonshire (Orton Longueville) in 1859, Norfolk (Diss) in 1859 and North Hampshire (Swarraton) in 1901, then unrecorded until found in Oxfordshire (Houlton) in 1976, and West Sussex (Rustington) in 1978.
