Habitat: On soil, often amongst grass, in deciduous woodland.
Notes: Collected and illustrated from Kew Gardens in 1886 [see Cooke 1116 (926) Vol. 8 (1889)] and there is a drawing by Rea in 1903 of material collected near Worcester (Crews Hill Wood). Unreported since then and no voucher material exists. A distinctive, large and conspicuous fungus unlikely to be overlooked and now regarded as extinct in Britain.
