Cortinarius biformis Fr., Epicr. syst. mycol. (Uppsala): 299 (1838) [1836-1838]

Habitat: On soil, in deciduous woodland. British material associated with Quercus spp.

Notes: Rarely reported and often misidentified (usually as C. tabacinus). Apparently widespread in England and reported from Scotland but known with certainty in recent years only from Cumberland.
