Cortinarius callisteus (Fr.) Fr., Epicr. syst. mycol. (Uppsala): 281 (1838) [1836-1838]

Agaricus callisteus Fr., Observ. mycol. (Leipzig) 2: 51 (1818)

Habitat: On soil, associated with conifers in woodland or plantations. British material with Picea abies and Pinus sylvestris.

Notes: Most collections from scattered sites in Scotland, and a single one from Wales (Denbighshire: Abergele). Reported from England (Herefordshire) in the late nineteenth century, and from Northern Ireland, but unsubstantiated with voucher material.
