Habitat: On dead wood of deciduous trees, usually Fagus but often on Betula pendula and Ilex; rarely Aesculus and Sorbus aucuparia.
Notes: Often recorded, but frequently confused with Pleurotus ostreatus. Spores of P. pulmonarius are smaller, as are the basidiomes which also tend to become yellowish when dried.
