Description: Thallus Botrydina-type; hyphae amongst granules 2–3 µm diam. Cap 5–11 mm diam.; margin furrowed, crenate and translucent-striate; at first dark brown, then grey brown, light brown when dry. Gills whitish or greyish at first, contrasting with cap and stem, slowly later dark grey brown to brown but still paler than cap, broad, shortly decurrent. Cystidia and marginal cells absent, perhaps rarely with very isolated marginal cells difficult to distinguish from basidia. Stem 15–30 × 1–3 mm, ± concolorous with cap or paler, finely pubescent; hairs brown incrusted, at least at base, the apex mostly colourless. Hyphal pigment intraparietal to incrusting; clamp connections absent. Basidia mostly 2-spored, 5–6 µm wide. Basidiospores 6–8 × 3–4 µm, ellipsoid.

Habitat: On peaty soil on moorland or upland and montane habitat, associated with the anamorphic Botrydina state.

Notes: Rarely reported but apparently widespread. Probably a species complex.

Distribution: E: !, S: !, W: !, NI: !
