Habitat: On decayed wood (stumps or logs) of deciduous trees.

Notes: Rarely reported or collected and appears to be actually rare in Britain. Known from England (Bedfordshire, Buckinghamshire, Cambridgeshire, Northamptonshire, South Essex, South Hampshire, Surrey and West Kent). Closely resembles Coprinus micaceus in the field and may be passed over as such, if not microscopically examined.
