Habitat: On rich soils in woodland areas, waste places, dunes and on flowerbeds in parks and gardens, especially where mulched with woodchips or shredded bark. Often associated with Urtica dioica.

Notes: Occasional but widespread. Previously not distinguished from, and frequently misidentified, as Stropharia aeruginosa.
