Habitat: On sandy soil, usually on dunes.

Notes: Rarely reported but may be locally frequent. Most frequent in southern and western areas. Said to smell less foetid than Phallus impudicus with various interpretations of the scent; according to Rea (1922) 'like liquorice' and to Phillips & Plowrig.
