Hygrophorus mesotephrus Berk., Ann. Mag. nat. Hist. Ser. 2 [Notices of British Fungi No. 699] 13: 402 (1854)

Habitat: On soil in woodland. Reported with Fagus, Quercus and Pinus spp.

Notes: Described from Britain but poorly known. Collections (in herb. K) from England (Buckinghamshire, Derbyshire, North Wiltshire, Oxfordshire, South Essex, South Hampshire, Surrey and West Sussex) and Wales (Breconshire and Cardiganshire). Sensu Cooke 887 (914) Vol. 6 (1888) and sensu auct. is H. unicolor.
