Habitat: On acidic soil, in mixed woodland, associated with Betula spp. or Pinus sylvestris.
Notes: Poorly known in Britain (and possibly not authentically British). Most of the records are old and unsubstantiated with voucher material. Sensu Orton (1955) is C. durus and sensu Lange (1938) is C. vulpinus.
