Habitat: On dead parts of standing trees, stumps or fallen wood of broadleaved trees, usually dead standing trunks of Fagus and Fraxinus in old deciduous woodland. A single record on Ulmus glabra.

Notes: Rare. Known from widely scattered sites from Yorkshire southwards but mainly from southern counties.
