Habitat: On soil, often associated with Fagus or Quercus spp., in open deciduous woodland, and occasionally with Betula spp. Mainly autumnal but sometimes fruiting in spring.
Notes: Uncommonly reported but apparently widespread. May be locally abundant in certain areas, e.g. the New Forest.
