Habitat: On soil amongst leaf litter, usually in conifer woodland and plantations, not infrequently on burnt ground. Rarely reported with deciduous trees.
Notes: Apparently widespread. The treatment here follows Noordeloos (FAN3) who considered all five epithets listed above as belonging to a single variable species.
