Habitat: On soil in montane or boreal habitat, always associated with Betula or Salix herbacea.

Notes: Collections from scattered sites in Scotland, and single locations in England (Cumberland) and Wales (Caernarvonshire). Strictly montane and associated with willows but the name was misapplied by Rea to any white Amanitopsis hence there are several old reports from southern England (South Hampshire and West Sussex).
